Should the drinking age be 21? The United States is the only country that has the legal drinking age of 21. The United States also has the highest amount of alcoholics. In other countries they embrace alcohol as part of their culture and serve drinks as young as 12. I also don’t understand how it can be legal for a person to go to war and die for their country, and vote for the next president but they can’t drink. It doesn’t make sense that a person then becomes an adult at 18. It doesn’t follow because if you are truly an adult you should be able to make your own decisions their should be no more age limits set on things.
I also think that if the drinking age were to be lowered there would be a lower rate of alcoholism because their wouldn’t be this need to sneak alcohol and get as drunk as you possibly can. In high school kids who choose to drink, drink dangers amounts because they have to be so careful about getting caught that once they are free they go crazy. This is an issue that the United States should look back into.

I agree with what your saying. How is it possible that people die for their country at 18 but aren't able to go to a bar and have a beer. How is it possible that people can decide the future of their country by voting for a president but then again, they can't even have a beer with their friends. I can't really see this law changing in the future, but one never knows what will happen.
I’ve been thinking about this same issue for some time now. My trips to Europe opened my eyes and gave me a broader perspective on the appropriateness of consuming alcohol. My time in Italy showed me that having a glass of wine at dinner with the family is standard, at any age. I think its great. It takes away from the curiosity and mystery that teens feel that need to experiment with. Creating a norm out of something potentially dangerous gives the European lifestyle an advantage. Experimentation and over dose most commonly occur because of curiosity and the need to look cool. Once this is eliminated, the drinking could take place in social and controlled environments in fair amounts.
