Why are rock stars idolized?

It's obvious to why people naturally would want to be rock stars. They have it all, money, fame, mansions, nice cars, but should we really glorify them? For centuries little kids have looked up to these singers and rappers, but what is the message these rock stars are sending? Sending the message that doing drugs is "cool" and that sleeping with as many women as you can should be praised. Is this really what we want the children of America or any where else thinking. In a biography of the lead guitarist of the band the Eagles, he claims to have snorted a line of cocaine off of his amp in between every song. These are the people that kids are looking up to. What about this is cool. As I thought more and more about it I raised the question, who decides what is cool? The solution I came across for as to why rock stars are glorified for doing questionable acts is; everyone wants to be bad and for whatever reason the temptation of doing acts that are looked down upon is exciting. It gives all of us an adrenaline rush to disobey what we have always been told. Rock stars are just the beneficiaries of getting to do what everyone else wants to and they get away with it because they are labeled as "rock stars."

I agree with your post. Rock stars and movie stars seem to get away with everything and unfortunately many people try to be like them. The celebrities are setting a bad example for the American youth. Sex and drugs is a large part of the problem, but body image is also a very important problem. 1 in 3 girls have an eating disorder in the United States. Many of these disorders are because of the unrealistic body image celebrities portray. The American youth are becoming more and more influenced by celebrities and we are very interested in their life styles.

I agree with your post as well. No it's not right that a celebrity can do everything illegal under the sun and get away with it.Then on the other hand I don't know why but I love to read rock stars autobiography. They're my favorite books. I like to read about others doing things I dare not do myself(Drugs/Violence).Though I cant explain why society deems it okay.

Rock Stars are carefree and dangerous. Fulfilling these ideals would surely lead us to destruction, and actually, in the end, will them too. The media portrays the rich as people above the law, doing whatever they want and still having everything. It's like if I were to party all night and make a 100 on a test the next morning- it's just false logic, although intriguing. Indulging in these fantasies is incompatible with real life but its fun to watch others do it. Even knowing its unrealistic, the media can be very persuasive and brainwashing. How much does the media warp our vision of a fulfilled and enjoyable life?
