Injuries in sports
Today a common theme among major league athletes is to play through an injury. For example Kobe Bryant is playing through a torn ligament in his pinky finger and is opting not to have surgery in order to play in the upcoming season. Another professional athlete, Chad Johnson, is opting to not have shoulder surgery until after the season even though it was recommended by doctors. I don't know if this is a smart move by either of these athletes because of the pain they could endure later in life. This does show the dedication of professional athletes and that they are not just over paid premadonna's. They actually have a passion for what they are doing and are striving to be the best and win a championship. The question this brought up t me was, are they getting pressure from anywhere else? Is their coaches and general managers forcing them to play injured? If so, it might be a good time to take a second look at professional sports.

Why are rock stars idolized?
It's obvious to why people naturally would want to be rock stars. They have it all, money, fame, mansions, nice cars, but should we really glorify them? For centuries little kids have looked up to these singers and rappers, but what is the message these rock stars are sending? Sending the message that doing drugs is "cool" and that sleeping with as many women as you can should be praised. Is this really what we want the children of America or any where else thinking. In a biography of the lead guitarist of the band the Eagles, he claims to have snorted a line of cocaine off of his amp in between every song. These are the people that kids are looking up to. What about this is cool. As I thought more and more about it I raised the question, who decides what is cool? The solution I came across for as to why rock stars are glorified for doing questionable acts is; everyone wants to be bad and for whatever reason the temptation of doing acts that are looked down upon is exciting. It gives all of us an adrenaline rush to disobey what we have always been told. Rock stars are just the beneficiaries of getting to do what everyone else wants to and they get away with it because they are labeled as "rock stars."
